TECNALIA-Telecom coordinates the FUTURE_INTERNET Project, which is part of the ETORTEK (Future Technologies) programme of the Basque Government. FUTURE_INTERNET is the largest initiative in Spain dealing with both evolutionary and disruptive research. Its goal is to advance in future technologies and architectures of Internet, generating at the same time a common ground for disruptive applications and business models.
During its first phase, from 2008 to 2010, the project focuses on coordination, cross-domain experimental research and exploration on disruptive business opportunities. In the second phase, from 2011 to 2013, the main goal is to engage the Information and Communication Technologies industry in order to have an active role in the emerging opportunities raised from the evolution of the Internet.
Near 40 researches from seven institutes of TECNALIA and IK4 Research Alliance take part in the first phase of the project. These teams work together with specialised research groups from the University of the Basque Country and University of Deusto. Most research activities are performed in open cooperation with external entities and technological alliances.
In the comparison with other Strategic Research projects, FUTURE INTERNET merges together the statements of the basic research, through ground-breaking approaches, with a focus on market application in the medium term.
