Objective

To act as an incentive for those professionals in the media industry (press, radio, TV and internet) who promote and disseminate knowledge of research, innovation and technological development among the general public.

Subjects

All candidate applications must be on the following subject matter:

Examples of innovation in processes and/or products.

New technologies for progress, welfare and sustainability.

Competitiveness, technology and cooperation networks.

Application format

Los trabajos que participen en este Premio deberán presentar las siguientes características:

  • Written article: submitted with an original copy of the publication in which it was published.
  • Radio broadcast: recorded on CD or USB memory stick, together with a recording of the complete program in which it was broadcast and indicating the radio station and date of broadcast.
  • TV broadcast: recorded on DVD or USB memory stick, together with a recording of the complete program in which it was broadcast and indicating the TV channel and date of broadcast.
  • Internet article: recorded on CD or USB memory stick and included as part of the complete website used to disseminate the article.
Conditions

All candidates for the Prize must be professionals in the media industry whose journalistic work, either on an individual basis or as part of a team, has been published, broadcast or disseminated under their own name or under a pseudonym in any of the formats indicated above between January 1 2009 and May 31 2010.

Each candidate may submit a maximum of 3 (three) works of journalism.

Candidate applications may be submitted in any of the official languages of the member states of the European Union, though one copy of the work must be submitted in Spanish.

Prizes

A total of 15,000 euros will be awarded as prize money and distributed in three categories as shown below:

  • Written media: 5,000 euros.
  • Radio and TV: 5,000 euros.
  • Internet: 5,000 euros.

One and only one prize will be given for each category

The jury and decision process

The jury, led by Mr. José Ángel Sánchez Asiaín, President of the Cotec Foundation, will be composed of people of renowned prestige within the world of technological research and innovation and the media.

The jury's decision for the V TECNALIA Prize for Journalism on Technological Research and Innovation will be taken by simple majority vote. In the case of a tie, the President will have the casting vote.

The jury's decision will be taken before December 31 2010.

The prizes will be awarded in the course of a specifically organised ceremony, during which the jury's decision will be made public.

Submission format and deadline

The deadline for the submission of applications is 10 September 2010.

All works must be sent by certified post or handed in personally to:

All candidate applications must be clearly labelled “V TECNALIA Prize for Journalism on Technological Research and Innovation”.

Document

All candidate applications must include:

  • the name(s) and identity card number(s) of the author(s).
  • a contact postal address, telephone number and e-mail address.
  • a short curriculum vitae.
  • the journalistic work, submitted as described above under the heading ‘Application Format’.

Submission of candidature indicates acceptance of the conditions of entry for the Prize and the decision of the jury. No submitted works will be returned.

Rights

TECNALIA reserves the right to disseminate the works submitted, specifying the name of the author, the media form, the date of publication, broadcast or dissemination and the condition of any particular work or works as having been selected by TECNALIA for a period of time not exceeding 6 (six) months, without this in any case representing economic exploitation of the work(s).

Works shall remain the property of the author(s), or of the medium in which they were disseminated.
